Blind spot
The driver of every vehicle has to deal with blind spots.
A blind spot is the part you cannot see when you look ahead or in the mirrors.
Part 2 in the image below is the area the driver can see when looking in the left outside mirror.
Part 1 the driver cannot see in the mirror, which is called the blind spot.
During the theory exam, you will also regularly be asked where the blind spots are for a driver of a car with a trailer, as shown in the image below.
The driver can see part B in the left wing mirror.
Part A is the blind spot. However, when the driver looks in the rear-view mirror, he can only see the front of the caravan. He cannot see what is happening behind the caravan. That is why part C is also a blind spot.
Even if extra wing mirrors are attached, the blind spot behind the caravan remains.
Nowadays, there are special cameras that show the image behind the trailer on an extra screen in the car.
