Military convoy

A military convoy carries a number of fixed identification marks. These are:

  • The leading motor vehicle must carry one blue flag on the left front.
  • The following motor vehicles optionally carry one blue flag on the left front.
  • The rearmost motor vehicle of the convoy must carry a green flag on the left front.
  • Every motor vehicle that is part of the military convoy carries at least dipped headlights during the day and at night.

SPECIAL RULES ABOUT THE MILITARY CONVOY

Road users must not cut across military convoys. This rule only applies at priority uncontrolled junctions.
Rules 2 and 3 of our priority rules do apply at a priority controlled junction.

Drivers of a motor vehicle belonging to a military convoy that has begun to pass the traffic light at a green light may continue to proceed even after a different color of light has become visible.

Within built-up areas, drivers must give bus drivers sufficient opportunity to pull away from a bus stop if the bus driver signals his intention to do so. This does not apply to drivers of vehicles forming part of a military convoy.

Drivers must give way at all times to pedestrians and drivers of invalid carriages who are crossing or obviously waiting to cross at a pedestrian crossing. This rule does not apply to drivers of vehicles forming part of a military convoy.

More information about the military convoy can be found in the chapter SPECIAL ROADS, ROAD SURFACES, ROAD USERS AND MANOEUVRES.
