Level crossing

A level crossing (overweg in Dutch) is an intersection of a road and a railroad marked with the so-called andreas crosses. Stopping at a level crossing is not only prohibited, but also life-threatening. Several fatal accidents occur at level crossings every year.

Most level crossings are guarded or secured. There are different types of level crossings: the guarded level crossing, the level crossing secured with automatic half crossing trees (AHOB), with an automatic flashing light system (AKI), the unsecured level crossing and the whole automatic level crossing trees (HAOB).
