Brommobiel – microcar

The CBR does not translate the word brommobiel. But a brommobiel is the same as a microcar.

A brommobiel is a type of moped. To drive a brommobiel, you must have a valid AM driver’s license.
At the rear of a microcar the speed limit of 45 kilometers must be indicated. This must be on a round white sticker with a red border. The letter color must be black.

The speed limit for a brommobiel is 45 kilometers per hour. Because of this, they are not allowed to drive on an autoweg or motorway. This is because on these roads, the motor vehicle must be able and allowed to drive with a speed of at least 50 or 60 kilometers per hour.
However, drivers of brommobielen are allowed to drive on roads both inside and outside built-up areas. Hence, you can also expect to see a brommobiel on a road outside the built-up area, where the speed limit is 80 kilometers per hour.

A brommobiel is not a motor vehicle, but a motor carriage..However, a driver of a brommobiel must follow the rules that apply to a motor vehicle.
This includes, among other things:the seat belt wearing obligation applies.
You must drive on the carriageway. This applies both inside and outside built-up areas.
A brommobiel may not park on the sidewalk.
At sign F1: “Prohibition for motor vehicles to overtake one another”, the driver of a moped may not overtake other motor vehicles nor be overtaken himself.

Signs C6, C9 and C12 apply to drivers of a moped.
