Stopping – traffic signs

When sign E2 is placed, as shown in the image, you are not allowed to stand still on the carriageway on the side of the road where the sign is placed.
You are allowed to stand still on the verge and sections of the road with a parking destination. You may also stand still on the other side of the carriageway, because the sign only applies to the side of the carriageway where the sign is placed.

Mnemonic device:

The difference between sign E1 and E2 is sometimes difficult to remember. There are 2 ways to remember the meaning:
Tip 1. Sign E1 has a stripe, streeP in Dutch. This ends with a ‘P’ of Parking prohibited. Sign E2 has a crosS. This ends with an ‘S’ of Standing Still prohibited.

Tip 2. Sign E1 has 1 stripe. This allows you to put the letters NP in the 2 planes. NP then stands for No Parking.
Sign E2 has a cross. You can place the letters S.T.I.L. in the 4 squares. Standing still is prohibited.

Tip 3: At an X you are not allowed anything at all.
