Pedestrian crossings

Article 49 of the RVV states the following:

  • Drivers must give way to blind persons equipped with a white stick with one or more red rings, and otherwise to all persons who have difficulty moving.
  • Drivers must give way to pedestrians and drivers of vehicles for the disabled who are crossing or apparently about to cross at a pedestrian crossing.
  • The above does not apply to drivers of a motor vehicle belonging to a military convoy or a funeral procession of motor vehicles.
  • Nor does the above apply if red pedestrian lights or yellow flashing lights as referred to in Article 74 of the RVV, second paragraph apply to pedestrians and drivers of  vehicles for the disabled.

Article 12 RVV: It is prohibited to overtake a vehicle immediately before or on a pedestrian crossing.

Article 23 RVV: Drivers may not leave their vehicles stationary on a pedestrian crossing or within five meters of it.
