Cycle path

A cycle path is separated from the carriageway.
Cyclists and moped riders must ride on the mandatory cycle path.
Pedestrians may walk on the mandatory cycle path if there is no pavement or footpath.
Drivers of disabled vehicles may use a mandatory cycle path.
Riders are not allowed to use a mandatory cycle path.
You can encounter a cycle path inside and outside built-up areas.
In more and more places in the Netherlands, moped riders are no longer allowed to use a mandatory cycle path, but must ride on the carriageway. In places where they are not allowed to use a mandatory cycle path, this is indicated by traffic signs.

Optional cycle paths also exist.
Cyclists, riders of a snorfiets with an electric motor and riders of a vehicle for disabled persons may use an optional cycle path.
Drivers of a snorfiets equipped with an internal combustion engine may use the optional cycle path only with the engine switched off.
