Introduction of the chapter speed

The most important thing about speed is that you control your speed so that it is always, but really always possible to stop in time.

You have to take into account the weather conditions, the road surface, the condition and load of your vehicle, and how busy the road is.

Obviously, on a motorway, at three o’clock at night, you can drive faster than in a traffic jam at four o’clock in the afternoon.

The speed you drive also matters in relation to your following distance, as well as the distance kept by those behind you. Practice yourself by regularly converting your speed in kilometers per hour to meters per second. Not only will you get a more realistic picture this way, many theory exam questions also deal with this.

Among other things, you need to know:

  • What the speed limits of the various drivers on the various roads are.
  • What the meaning of the various signs regarding speed is.
  • That the speed limit is not always the maximum speed.
  • What the minimum following distance should be.
  • What the stopping distance is.

You can read all about speed on the following pages.
