Overtaking on the right

Inhalen geschiedt in normale situaties links.
Op bovenstaande foto rijdt een auto met een lage snelheid in de middelste rijstrook. De donkere auto haalt deze auto links in. Prima, zo hoort het.
De witte auto wil deze auto rechts inhalen . Dat is niet toegestaan. Hieronder wordt uitgelegd wanneer je wel rechts mag inhalen.

Wanneer is rechts inhalen toegestaan?

Er zijn vier situaties dat je rechts mag inhalen.

• Het is bestuurders toegestaan vlak voor of op rotondes rechts in te halen. Ook is het bestuurders van een motorvoertuig en bromfietsers die de rijbaan volgen toegestaan vlak voor of op rotondes anders dan aan de rechterzijde van de rijbaan te rijden.
• Files mogen aan de rechterzijde worden ingehaald.
• Bestuurders mogen trams rechts inhalen.
• Bestuurders die zich rechts van een blokmarkering bevinden mogen bestuurders die zich links van deze markering bevinden rechts inhalen.

Deze vier uitzonderingen geven aan wanneer rechts mag inhalen. Uiteraard mag je in deze vier situaties ook links inhalen. Van belang blijft altijd de verkeersveiligheid. Als je van plan bent om rechts in te halen let dan ontzettend goed op verkeer wat zich rechts naast of rechts achter je bevindt. Dit kunnen (snor)fietsers en bromfietsers zijn die het slachtoffer worden van een verkeerde inhaalmanoeuvre.

Wanneer is rechts inhalen verplicht?

Meestal moet je links inhalen, soms mag je rechts inhalen. Maar er is 1 situatie waarbij je rechts moet inhalen. Dat is als je achter een bestuurder rijdt die linksaf wil slaan en deze bestuurder heeft richting aangegeven naar links en heeft links voorgesorteerd.
Het lijkt mij ook niet verstandig om een bestuurder die links af wil slaan aan de linkerkant in te halen.

The picture clearly shows a traffic jam.

Drivers may overtake a tram on the right, but also on the left. In most cases, a tram will be overtaken on the right. Sometimes the tram lane is on the right of the carriageway. In these situations, you overtake a tram on the left, for the simple reason that there is no room on the right then.

When merging and exiting, you drive to the right of a block marking. When driving to the right of a block marking, you are allowed to overtake vehicles driving to the left of this block marking on the right.
In the picture, the white car is driving to the right of a block marking. The dark car next to the white car is also driving on the right of the block marking. This means that the white car is NOT allowed to overtake the dark car on the right.

The moped rider wants to turn left. This can be seen by the position on the carriageway and the indicator. If you want to overtake, you should do so on the right. Of course, you may also choose to stay behind the moped rider. Overtaking the moped rider on the left is not allowed. Fortunately, because that could cause dangerous situations.
