Competent authorities

The competent authority makes traffic decisions.

A traffic decision is about placing traffic signs, or applying markings on the carriageway. You can read who the competent authority is below.

Article 1 of the RVV:
Competent authority: authority as referred to in Article 18, first paragraph, of the Act;

Article 18 . first paragraph of the WVW:

  • 1 Traffic orders shall be made :
    • a. insofar as they concern traffic on roads administered by the State by Our Minister.
    • b. to the extent that they concern traffic on roads administered by a province by the Provincial Executive.
    • c. to the extent that they relate to traffic on roads administered by a water board, by the General Board or, pursuant to a resolution of the General Board, by the Executive Committee.
    • d. to the extent that they relate to traffic on other roads, by the mayor and aldermen, or, pursuant to a resolution of them, by an administrative committee established by them.
