During a trip, you may encounter other vehicles that have a slower speed than you are driving. Of course, you can keep driving behind these vehicles, but does it seem logical to keep driving a few kilometers behind a cyclist? No way, so you have to regularly catch up while driving.

How and where you can and should overtake safely can be read on the following pages. When overtaking, remember that overtaking does not or cannot cause any danger or inconvenience to other road users.

Encountering – General.

In traffic, you regularly encounter other road users. Normally, this does not cause many problems. Certainly not if the lane is wide enough.

It can also happen that you are driving on a narrow lane that is not wide enough. If you then encounter someone, you have to swerve. How much you have to swerve is different in every situation, but at least as much as possible to the right.

There may also be an obstacle on your side of the road. If there are no traffic signs indicating who may proceed, you must let oncoming traffic pass. When encountering other road users, you may not use your headlights.
