Stopping – autowegen and motorways

It is quite logical that you are not allowed to stand still on the carriageway of a autoweg or motorway.
On a hard shoulder or refuge area, you are allowed to stand still only in an emergency. Not to stop to operate a navigation system, make a phone call or pick up a hitchhiker, for example.
You may also stand still on the verge only in emergencies.
If you have a breakdown and have to stop on the verge, shoulder or lay-by, do so to the right as much as possible so that traffic is least bothered by you. Never stay in the car, including the passengers, but find a safe place. Even if it is raining hard, because then visibility for other road users is even less.
