The “main carriageway” is mentioned only once in the RVV. It is in the article where it is stipulated that drivers who enter the main carriageway of a autoweg or motorway via the acceleration lane or leave the main carriageway via the deceleration lane must give a signal during these maneuvers.
Even though the main carriageway is only mentioned once in the RVV, when taking the theory exam, you should know very well what the main carriageway is. In the picture, part A is the main carriageway. Part B is not part of the main carriageway, because an acceleration or deceleration lane is not part of the main carriageway.
Acceleration and deceleration lanes belong to the “carriageway”, but not to the “main carriageway”.
Article 1 of the RVV.
Main carriageway: lane without the acceleration and deceleration lanes.
